Chlamydia: The Silent Disease

Known cases of chlamydia in the US have topped a million for the first time, with the highest rates among teenage girls.

Under-reporting of the sexually transmitted disease means the real number could be nearly three times higher.

Syphilis and gonorrhea are also on the rise, partly due to antibiotic-resistant super bugs.

In females, some symptoms include:

  • Vaginal irritation

  • Vaginal discharge

  • Lower abdominal pain

  • Burning feeling with urination

The sick part of all this is Chlamydia is easily cured but it often produces no symptoms.

Infected people don't know they have it until it causes severe health problems like pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and infertility later in life.

Experts say early intervention is key. Really?

"Chlamydia's a stealth bomber," said one gynecologist.

The true impact on public health based on the rise in STDs may not be felt for many years. The CDC claims 1 in 4 teen girls have an STD.

Of course, if you choose to live a sexually abstinent lifestyle, you'll have no worries. That's the best intervention on the planet.

Consequences Abound For Guys, Too

It makes men infertile, a new study finds.

Spanish scientists claim infected sperm has three times more damage, or DNA fragmentation, as healthy sperm.

Its density, shape and swimming ability also decline. This is not good news if you plan on starting a family one day.

Males who contract STD's is not a subject that's discussed often enough.

While this disease continues to wreak havoc, good old Planned Parenthood stands by to sound the alarm about the epidemic.

They follow up this "concern" by deluding gullible souls of their watered down version of abstinence. Then they dispatch their faithful minions to proclaim abstinence doesn't work.

This is circular reasoning at it's worst. What a joke!

The spread of Chlamydia is rampant. Rates are rising and not just in the U.S. It's time for the rhetoric to end now.

Up to 1 in 10 people aged 18-25 is carrying the disease in the UK.

Yet few men are ever diagnosed because symptoms can be minor, the BBC reports. A UK doctor says the remedy is more screenings.

I say if you're not having premarital sex, you won't get burned.

Why Is The Disease Spreading So Fast?

The short answer is it's contagious.

It can be transmitted through vaginal, anal, and oral sexual contact and in semen and vaginal secretions. If it comes into contact with the eyes, it can cause conjunctivitis. Nice.

However, the disease is not transmitted through casual contact such as shaking hands or using the same toilet as someone who is infected.

When someone is diagnosed with the contagion, all of the person’s sexual partners need to be notified and treated with antibiotics. This must be done even if they don’t have any symptoms.

Those infected with the disease have an increased chance of contracting the AIDS virus also. Which is why it's so important to get the truth into the hands of those who are most vulnerable to this disease.

Preventing the development of any long-term complications or spread of the infection to others is the primary goal.

If you had a choice between abstinence and becoming infected with Chlamydia, which would you choose?
