The Duggar family are a rather unique oddity. This tight-knit clan grows by about one member per year - a feat spanning 18 years. 2008 is no different as Mama Duggar is pregnant again. The family is expecting the little bundle on New Year’s Day 2009. The much-anticipated arrival of the new baby will make 18 children for proud parents, Jim Bob and Michelle. Jim Bob, Michelle, and their brood would never be so arrogant as to brag about their monumental accomplishments, so I’ll say it for them: “This is how you do successful family life…oh yeah, we’re the BOMB!” Parents Of The YearIn 2008, Jim Bob and Michelle reached another milestone: They were awarded Parents of the Year in July. If anyone has earned this distinction it’s Jim Bob and Michelle. I learned about them through their Discovery Channel documentary a few years ago. My first thoughts were of how nice, sweet, and wholesome they all appeared. I marveled at the gentle efficiency in which Jim Bob and Michelle manages their gaggle of children. They have organization and orderliness down to an art form. They are so efficient, every child’s first name begins with a “J”. Too cute! While watching their new doc, the Duggar’s Big Family Album, I was struck by the overwhelming love and tenderness displayed by each family member toward each other. Their ‘Duggar House Guidelines’ is an indicator as to why Jim Bob and Michelle have been able to accomplish so much in raising their humongous family. Another indication is their strong Christian faith. It is unmistakable and unflappable. Jim Bob, with Michelle by his side, leads the family in daily prayer and bible study. He’s a strong man who loves his family unconditionally and guides them with a gentle, but firm hand. Michelle seems to never raise her voice in anger, loves to give and gives to love, admires and supports her husband, and smiles at the drop of a hat. Mama and Papa Duggar have set an exemplary example for their children. The dedicated parents have taught them well. They admit to their fair share of imperfections and challenges. But the Duggar's sure appear to have the perfect marriage with the perfect family life to me.
