How reliable is it as a form of birth control? It is 100% reliable and safe. Think about it: If you're not having sex, protected or otherwise, you can't get pregnant. Nor can you contract an STD (like the Human Papilloma Virus, also known as HPV) or a deadly disease (like AIDS). It is the only fool-proof way to protect yourself from the ravages of promiscuity. If you remember nothing else, remember this: Condoms and birth control pills only provide a measure of protection. You are playing Russian Roulette if you put your trust in those faulty methods. Even "safe sex" advocates like Planned Parenthood and the Centers for Disease Control testify to the advantages of saving yourself until marriage.

Should abstinence only education be taught in schools instead of comprehensive sex education? I believe the ONLY persons who are qualified to educate children about sex and relationships are parents. Although I applaud the efforts of implementing abstinence only education, it has caused a lot of division and unnecessary bureaucracy. Uncle Sam can't even balance its budget, among other things. Why should parents trust the government to become the moral authority for their children? Educators should stick with what they know best: reading, writing, arithmetic, and other academic pursuits.

Is it only practiced by Christians or can people of any faith/age/gender practice it? No, you don't have to be a Christian to practice abstinence and you certainly don't have to be a particular age or gender gender. Anyone who wants to steer clear of the consequences of premarital sex should consider total abstinence until marriage as a healthy, safe alternative.

What is an abstinence vow and what happens if someone breaks their vow? The vow is a promise you make to yourself, your Higher Power, or someone you trust not to engage in sexual relations. When the vow is broken, it doesn't mean you're condemned as a sexual deviant. People with alcohol and drug addictions, who fall off the wagon, are encouraged to start again. If they're serious about sobriety, they will make a strong effort to stay sober. Their emotional and physical health is dependent upon that decision. The same is true for abstinence.

Will it help achieve success in life? Saving yourself until marriage is not a magic pill that will make all your problems go away. If you are like I was, I made a lot of bad choices that I sincerely regret. Embracing my purity was not one of them. Since that fateful decision, I am much happier, more productive, and my life is finally headed in the right direction. Promiscuity is a major distraction. When your focus is not on hooking up, you'll have time for more rewarding pursuits. Start your own business, learn a new cultural language. Heck, you can even learn a new programming code - the sky's the limit! I'm certain you'll develop into the well rounded, intriguing person you have always aspired to become - with a lot less baggage.
